Dubai customs officers scored a double hit when they busted drug hauls with a street value of more than Dhs700,000 in two separate operations.
Dubai Customs said the two stashes of crystal meth arrived into the emirate from neigh-bouring countries, although officers did not specify exactly where they had originated from.
Ali Amughwai, the manager of the Airport Operations Department at Dubai Customs, said 4kg was found on one passenger.
Officers had noticed the traveller was acting suspiciously as he approached the declaration area at the airport. They searched his luggage and found the drugs stuffed into the sides and rear of his baggage.
The drugs has been wrapped in carbon paper in an attempt to hide them as they went through scanners at the airport.
A bundle of counterfeit Iranian banknotes was also found inside a jacket which was discovered in the luggage.
The second seizure also occurred at the checkpoint when a passenger was again spotted by customs staff acting in an suspicious manner.
Officers scanned his luggage and found a secret pocket inside, which contained 3kg of crystal meth.
Both suspects have been referred to Dubai Police’s Anti-Narcotics Department who will continue investigations.
