The Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment, an agency under the Department of Economic Development, recorded another milestone with the launch of the official Dubai Calendar.
The initiative was launched on May 2, 2011, at the Arabian Travel Market by His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, who unveiled the Dubai Calendar logo at the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment stand at hall 3 of Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Dubai Calendar is the first official reference for all events including festivals, exhibitions, cultural and sport happening throughout the year in Dubai. The main objective of this initiative is to keep business, travel and leisure visitors, and residents informed on the various activities happening in Dubai at any point of time during the year and enhance their experience in the emirate. Dubai Calendar can be accessed through www.dubaicalendar.ae.
His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed revealed the logo in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman of Dubai Airports, and Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group; His Excellency Sami Al Qamzi, Director General of Department of Economic Development; Laila Suhail, CEO of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment; Ibrahim Saleh, Festivals Coordinator General and Deputy CEO of the Establishment, various government dignitaries, and a host of local, regional, and international media.
HH Sheikh Ahmed said that he was very pleased with the launch of the Dubai Calendar and hoped that the initiative would open a new window to Dubai’s vibrant activities and festivities and subsequently make Dubai more attractive for tourists and residents.
HH Sheikh Ahmed also explained that the concept of Dubai Calendar was in line with the wider mandate assigned to Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment recently, adding that while the venture would directly affect sectors such as retail and events, its benefits would be felt across the economy.
From his part, His Excellency Sami Al Qamzi said, “The retail sector has always been a big contributor to Dubai’s economy and combining retail with the events sector opens up ways of exploring how to target and tap into various visitor segments. A majority of travel decisions are based on information and as far as information on retail and events is concerned, the Dubai Calendar will fulfill this need.” HE also stated that the initiative stemmed from the need to develop a highly functional and innovative marketing tool in view of the ever growing and competitive tourism industry in the region.
The Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment also organized a press conference after the logo was unveiled to explain more on the Dubai Calendar. A live demonstration of www.dubaicalendar.ae, highlighting its features and functions, was conducted during the press conference.
Addressing the attendees of the conference, Laila Suhail, CEO of the Establishment, began by thanking His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed and His Highness Sheikh Ahmed and said, “We would like to wholeheartedly thank their Highnesses for their support for the Dubai Calendar and for the numerous initiatives undertaken by the Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment.”
“The Dubai Calendar will fill the current information void by presenting an official point of reference for events organized across Dubai in addition to enabling government and private sector entities to benefit from this comprehensive information pool.”
Laila also said that the Dubai Calendar would benefit stakeholders immensely. “This endeavour will benefit residents, visitors, event organizers, travel consultants, and even retailers. Event organisers will be able to list their events in the official events listing of Dubai and take benefit of wider exposure. Additionally, travel consultants will obtain lead time to create value-added travel packages; retailers will have the opportunity to create exclusive campaigns and align them to events, while tourists will be able to plan their holidays in advance and make the best of what Dubai has to offer. Most importantly, Dubai Calendar will give users the benefit of accessing information on Dubai’s events and promotions from one source compared to gathering information from numerous websites.”
“The Dubai Calendar project has been possible through the combined efforts of government entities that either organize, host, or grant permits for most of the events in Dubai. The Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment will manage this initiative as part of the current strategy,” she added.
Explaining the Dubai Calendar logo, Laila said, “The Dubai Calendar logo was inspired by the Dubai Creek, the trading heritage of Dubai, and the diversity of the emirate. The visionary spirit of the city is also reflected in the logo, as well as the varied experiences that Dubai has to offer for everyone.” Laila also pointed out that Dubai was spelt out in Arabic in the logo.
