Gulf Air will be the first carrier to offer a new in-flight cable channel that will enable passengers to watch live coverage of sporting events such as Premier League football and the Olympics.
According to a press statement by media company IMG, the Bahrain-based carrier is now offering a new premium 24-hour sports channel – SPORT 24 – that has been launched via a partnership between IMG and Panasonic.
The carrier will initially offer Sport 24 on its ‘Sky Hub’, which is currently available on A330 aircraft that fly long-haul and on some intra-Gulf routes including its destinations to Europe, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jeddah, Manila, Lahore, and Islamabad, IMG said.
Other prime sports content to be shown on the channel will include live coverage of the French and Australian Open tennis tournaments, the Masters and the Ryder Cup, Formula 1 motor racing, and games from German football’s Bundesliga.
Coverage of the sporting events will be uninterrupted even on long distance flights over oceans, the statement said.
IMG said it is in discussions with other airlines interested in taking the Sport 24 channel. The channel will also be available on cruise liners from March 1 following a deal with Norwegian Cruise Liners. More info
