Italian firm wins Dubai air traffic services contract

ENAV, an Italian company specialising in air navigation services, has been awarded the tender to manage air traffic services at Dubai’s new Al Maktoum Airport, and to optimise air traffic flows in the Dubai area.

The company said it will play a key role as the airport – Dubai’s second – expands to become the world’s largest.

Air traffic restrictions in the region are seen by aviation experts as a key factor to hold back future growth in the region.

Tony Tyler, the CEO of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) raised the issue recently, saying the Gulf region offered a huge amount of capacity in a relatively small area, with “delays becoming commonplace”. More info
