The vast new airport development designed to make Dubai the aviation crossroads for up to 160 million passengers a year opens for passenger flights today.
Al Maktoum International Airport, the centrepiece of the hugely ambitious Dubai World Central (DWC) project, launches its passenger terminal today, taking the wraps off a state-of-the-art facility that immediately boosts the emirate’s airport capacity by seven million passengers a year.
Following the successful completion of pre-launch testing – which saw more than 1,200 volunteers take part in activities designed to simulate the passenger experience at the new terminal – the new building is all set for a VIP launch today. Airport bosses and executives from the first airlines to call the terminal home will hold a media briefing at the terminal following the unveiling of a commemorative plaque. More info
