UAE air traffic up 9% in October

Air traffic in the UAE increased by 9.11 percent year-on-year last month, according to new figures released on Tuesday by the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

The GCAA monthly report indicated that total air traffic movements in October 2010 were 57295, with an average of 1,848 air traffic movements per day, according to a report by the WAM news agency.

Dubai had the highest level air traffic in the UAE, with 25,192, or nearly 44 percent of all air traffic movements last month.

Abu Dhabi ranked third with 8,057, Sharjah International Airport was fourth with 5,273 and internal UAE flight movements was fifth position with 5,224 movements.

Of the smaller regional airports, Fujairah recorded 405, Al Ain 213 and Ras Al Khaimah 391.

The newly opened Al Maktoum International Airport registered just 25 shipping movements last month.
